WCDC is creating a unique, interactive performance where you will be encouraged to USE your phones, not put them away!
Ready to explore outside of our conventional theater setting, Wasatch Contemporary Dance Co. has been itching to do a narrative-style, interactive performance in an original space. We're breaking down the boundaries of "dance in a box" and creating a special arena theater in the Ballroom of the Provo Library at Academy Square to bring you a unique performance on a topic that matters to us - and probably to you, too.
One of the great challenges of life and a goal for which we are constantly striving is to connect with the people that matter to us - how to have strong families and friendships, how to communicate effectively at work, and how to make your statement to the world. Since the beginning of time mankind has chased this goal with invention after invention - morse code, telephones, typewriters, computers, the Internet, cell phones, and now a wide world of social media - all technology bent on connecting humans. Today's networking capabilities have made it possible for a grandparent to watch their grandchild grow up across the country, and allowed for an endless encyclopedia of shared knowledge at our fingertips. For all the good this technology creates, does it also create some barriers to real communication and real human relationships? This is the kind of brainstorming Wasatch Contemporary Dance Co. has been engaged in since August to bring you a unique and thought-provoking performance on December 6, 2014.
'Articulate' is a multi-faceted performance using media, props, sets, and even the architecture of the historic Provo Library Ballroom to bring you a truly three dimensional experience - one in which we invite you to use your devices to interact with our performance, and one in which we hope you will observe and learn something that matters to you. After the performance we invite you to stick around for a question and answer session to ask any questions you have about the behind-the-scenes process, or just how in the world Kelsey can get her leg that high. ;-)
The rehearsals are well under way and the concert is coming together. The venue rental and costumes are already funded, so you may be asking what we're doing here. What we are asking from you is to help us take our concert to the next level. We have some out-of-this-world ideas that require us to buy a considerable amount of fabric, as well as rent several projectors and other media equipment to make this show the fullest experience possible! (That makes you curious, right?) Help us make our vision into a reality and not have to cut corners that will keep our message from making its full impact!
Your contribution will get you some awesome rewards and even allow you to observe us in our unique process as we put together this show! We thank you for your support and for helping us to create GREAT art that can have GREAT impact!

Fortunately, our fundraising efforts this year have already paid for our venue rental and the necessary basics for putting on a concert on December 6. The show must go on, and it will! But you can help 'Articulate' reach its greatest potential by helping us pay for the materials we need to buy or rent in order to take this project to the next level. The only challenges we may encounter have to do with making our technological ideas work. In our heads they are flawless, but you know how it is - sometimes that pesky Wi-Fi just won't work when you most need it to! But we have worked with technology, internet, projections, and Wi-Fi connections in the past and have always found successful back-up plans to make sure that even if the Internet doesn't want to cooperate, our art isn't going to suffer or fail because of it. We will be dedicating LOTS of rehearsal time to making sure these crucial parts of our show run smoothly!
