About this project

According to statistics the political motivation of "young people" is lower than every other age bracket. This gives us a bad reputation, and is also inaccurate - young people are most likely to turn up to protests as well as set up and sign petitions. Scuffle is about challenging the idea of apathy and giving young people a voice to express issues they feel are important. We have 18 features in total written by people under 24 from across the UK (as well as two from abroad). These features range from the struggle of growing up to issues surrounding homosexuality in Russia, densely packed with opinions, facts and pleas, Scuffle is a small fight against a traditional political elite.

Risks and challenges

We have an editing team of only two. With both of us in our last year of school, Scuffle is concentrated on in our (very little) spare time. Having said this we do have the original of the magazine completed, and now just need funding for printing and going online.

Articulate : Exploring Communication and Technology through Dance

WCDC is creating a unique, interactive performance where you will be encouraged to USE your phones, not put them away!
Ready to explore outside of our conventional theater setting, Wasatch Contemporary Dance Co. has been itching to do a narrative-style, interactive performance in an original space. We're breaking down the boundaries of "dance in a box" and creating a special arena theater in the Ballroom of the Provo Library at Academy Square to bring you a unique performance on a topic that matters to us - and probably to you, too.
One of the great challenges of life and a goal for which we are constantly striving is to connect with the people that matter to us - how to have strong families and friendships, how to communicate effectively at work, and how to make your statement to the world. Since the beginning of time mankind has chased this goal with invention after invention - morse code, telephones, typewriters, computers, the Internet, cell phones, and now a wide world of social media - all technology bent on connecting humans. Today's networking capabilities have made it possible for a grandparent to watch their grandchild grow up across the country, and allowed for an endless encyclopedia of shared knowledge at our fingertips. For all the good this technology creates, does it also create some barriers to real communication and real human relationships? This is the kind of brainstorming Wasatch Contemporary Dance Co. has been engaged in since August to bring you a unique and thought-provoking performance on December 6, 2014.
'Articulate' is a multi-faceted performance using media, props, sets, and even the architecture of the historic Provo Library Ballroom to bring you a truly three dimensional experience - one in which we invite you to use your devices to interact with our performance, and one in which we hope you will observe and learn something that matters to you. After the performance we invite you to stick around for a question and answer session to ask any questions you have about the behind-the-scenes process, or just how in the world Kelsey can get her leg that high. ;-)
The rehearsals are well under way and the concert is coming together. The venue rental and costumes are already funded, so you may be asking what we're doing here. What we are asking from you is to help us take our concert to the next level. We have some out-of-this-world ideas that require us to buy a considerable amount of fabric, as well as rent several projectors and other media equipment to make this show the fullest experience possible! (That makes you curious, right?) Help us make our vision into a reality and not have to cut corners that will keep our message from making its full impact!
Your contribution will get you some awesome rewards and even allow you to observe us in our unique process as we put together this show! We thank you for your support and for helping us to create GREAT art that can have GREAT impact!

Risks and challengesLearn about accountability on Kickstarter

Fortunately, our fundraising efforts this year have already paid for our venue rental and the necessary basics for putting on a concert on December 6. The show must go on, and it will! But you can help 'Articulate' reach its greatest potential by helping us pay for the materials we need to buy or rent in order to take this project to the next level. The only challenges we may encounter have to do with making our technological ideas work. In our heads they are flawless, but you know how it is - sometimes that pesky Wi-Fi just won't work when you most need it to! But we have worked with technology, internet, projections, and Wi-Fi connections in the past and have always found successful back-up plans to make sure that even if the Internet doesn't want to cooperate, our art isn't going to suffer or fail because of it. We will be dedicating LOTS of rehearsal time to making sure these crucial parts of our show run smoothly!

Indie Romantic comedy - TEMPS

Grant Rosenmeyer & Lindsey Shaw star in an indie romantic comedy about a short-term thrill seeker dating a long-term goal planner.
Hello Kickstarterland! We are so excited to tell you about 'Temps', a little passion passion project we've been feverishly working on for the last year. Principal photography is wrapped but we are in need of some additional funds to cover a few extra days of shooting, our post production and festival fees.

THE STORY

follows Jefferson (Grant Rosenmeyer), a ski-bum temp worker, whose singular joy comes from an annual excursion to the slopes with fellow vagabond Curtis (Reid Ewing). But when Jefferson falls for Stephanie (Lindsey Shaw), an ambitious go-getter, he is forced to re-evaluate his priorities. Eden Sher plays Stephanie's best friend and Chris Bauer plays Jefferson's dad.
The script was written by Tim Bennett-Huxtable and it's a DAMN GOOD ONE. Honest, emotional, whip-smart and hilarious in equal measure, Temps subverts expectations and digs deeper than the traditional romantic comedy - a warts-and-all look at love, intimacy, commitment and what it really means to be a twenty-something in a relationship right now.

WHY DONATE?

What I love most about Kickstarter is not just the potential for fundraising, it's the idea of building a passionate group of supporters that work together to make a project possible. As a team, we've personally invested in dozens of Kickstarter projects and there is something indescribably satisfying in seeing a project come to fruition and knowing you had a small part in making that happen.
Our personal goal with this Kickstarter campaign is to allow the donors a real inside view of our filmmaking process and give insider access to all the filmmakers involved.
This is a unique project on Kickstarter in that principal photography has already been completed and the editing is underway. We just need funds to shoot a couple of extra scenes (the shots of Jefferson on a snow covered mountain promise to be SPECTACULAR!), finish post-production, and cover the costs of festival submissions to get this film out to the world so everyone can ACTUALLY SEE IT!
We're so close, we can almost taste it...

CHECK OUT A COUPLE OF SCENES

CAST

It is seriously crazy the caliber of actors who have joined us on our little adventure. These are all working actors, on some of TV's biggest shows I might add. They're not doing this film for the big bucks, they're doing it because they love acting, this story and the charters they portray really struck a nerve with them.
Grant was the first actor to sign on. He is probably best remembered as Ben Stiller’s tracksuit-clad son Ari in The Royal Tenenbaums, or as the star of FOX's Oliver Beene.Following a short hiatus to pursue a degree in Film at NYU, we feel very fortunate that we were able to snag him right as he returns to Hollywood to reignite his career.
Lindsey has amassed a huge fan base from her long resume of work. Currently, she plays the popular Paige McCullers on ABC Family’s Pretty Little Liars. She has also starred in ABC Family’s, 10 Things I Hate About You and Ned's Declassified School Survival Guide and ABC's Suburgatory. Lindsey and Grant were friends prior to production, so he brought her in to do a chemistry read... and they were ridiculously good together!! I can't possibly imagine anyone else playing Stephanie.
Reid is best known as playing Dylan on Modern Family. I first collaborated with him on aModern Family music video called "In the Moonlight (Do Me)." It also happened that's where I first collaboration with "Temps'" Director of Photography Stephen Sheridan. When I read the script, I instantly thought of Reid for the role of Curtis, and once Grant and Lindsey officially signed on, I approached him. There probably isn't a nicer actor or one with a more unique approach to comedy. He's flat-out hilarious and an amazing presence on set!
Eden plays the beloved Sue Heck on ABC's The Middle, a role that she was just crowned by Entertainment Weekly as being one of "Television's 25 Greatest Characters on TV Right Now". I had worked with Eden very briefly on some promos years ago, but really she came to us through our casting directors, Jennifer K.M. Treadwell CSA and Monica Kelly.
Chris has over 70 credits but is perhaps best known for his work on HBO's True Blood orthe Wire. He is one of those amazing actors that just slips into a role and is one hundred percent believable. He was also attached through our casting directors.

 CREW

As for me, I'm an award-winning writer, producer, director, who splits time between big budget network promos and micro budget filmmaking.
My first feature, A Big Love Story, an indie romantic comedy about a guy trying to lose weight to find love, took home seven festival awards, including Newport Beach Film Festival’s “Breakout Filmmaker of the Year,” Beverly Hills Film Festival’s “Audience Choice – Best Feature” and the Manhattan Film Festival’s, “Best Comedy.” Variety called it “unpretentiously well turned” while Hollywood Reporter raved, “it brings fresh life to the overworked romantic comedy genre.”
Stephen Sheridan is a long-time collaborator of mine. We have shot dozens of promos together and he shot my last feature, A Big Love Story. If you're looking at my work, most likely, you're looking at his, too. He recently shot some 2nd unit work on David Fincher's new film, Gone Girl.
In addition to his personal talents, he also brings with him an incredibly experienced crew, including gaffer Chris Strong, who's gaffed such features as Se7en, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Oblivion, & Up in the Air.
Helping out on the producing side is Jason Duplissea, another long time collaborator of mine, although previously he has worked mainly as an actor. With this project, he has stepped up and used his experience from theater and music video productions to really take the reins of our own little production.
For post production, we have a great team, including John DeBorde, an award-winning composer with credits that include several major festival films and more than 600 promos for ABC, NBC and the WB.
Emmy nominated graphic designer Milan Erceg and Technicolor's world famous colorist,Sparkle, who has colored such films as Kill Bill 1 & 2, The Aviator, & The Good Shepherd, will ensure the quality look of our finished film.
We really are excited by this project and hope you join in with us for some fun. Check out the rewards on the side, if you don't see a reward you like and want to suggest something, let us know and we can add it...within reason (FYI marriage to Lindsey Shaw is not within reason).

Risks and challengesLearn about accountability on Kickstarter

The film being largely complete means a great deal of the risk has already been mitigated. We are too far along to turn back now. We are seeking funding to complete the project in a timely manner, but regardless of the funding outcome, this movie is a done deal, it's simply a matter of how long it will take.

Free for All: Inside the Public Library is the first major documentary project about our nation’s most beloved and most threatened public institution. It captures dramatic personal stories from library users across America, highlighting the diverse communities that depend on public libraries and the surprising ways libraries are reinventing themselves to serve more people than ever.

ABOUT THE PROJECT

Big decisions about the future of the American public library -decisions that will resonate for generations - are being made NOW in local communities across the country. How these decisions will be made and who will make them are questions at the heart of our documentary.

We're an experienced team of award-winning filmmakers who are passionate about public libraries and their role in our democracy. Many people think of libraries as quaint book repositories growing obsolete in our digital age. We're on a mission to dispel that myth.
The reality is that people are using our local libraries more than ever before. If you haven’t been in a library lately, you’ll be astonished to discover what’s going on inside them. Libraries are providing digital media labs for youth, computer and internet access, literacy programs, job search resources, creative maker-spaces, baby yoga classes, senior technology training, romance book clubs, tools for genealogy buffs, rare databases for scholars, safe spaces for kids after school, and whew, much, much more. At some libraries, you can even check out fishing gear, cake pans, heirloom seeds, power tools, a painting or a laptop, along with the latest bestseller.
America’s more than 16,000 public library branches are a vital lifeline for millions of people. But in many communities that lifeline is in danger. Despite record-high usage, over 50% of U.S. public libraries have faced cuts or closures since the recession. Many are debating survival options like branch closures, severe reductions in hours, charging fees, or privatization.
Intended for PBS broadcast in 2016, FREE FOR ALL: Inside the Public Library will be a rollicking and visually stunning mosaic of faces, architecture and stories that brings to life the astonishing diversity of the American library experience and the urgent issues libraries face today. This feature-length documentary film chronicles “a day-in-the-life of the American library” from open to close in public libraries large and small. It features a handful of the millions of dramatic stories unfolding within them, including an Illinois immigrant teen struggling to understand her new country, a retired Louisiana fisherwoman in search of new adventures, a California actor who’s recently become homeless, and a young Nebraskan entrepreneur with big dreams.

OUR GOAL

Free for All: Inside the Public Library seeks to inspire, entertain, and spark dialogue and action about the future of public libraries. We feel it is urgent to complete production now, so the film can begin to have impact as soon as possible while critical decisions are being debated. That’s why we’re asking for your support now to complete shooting our film — and for your help in expanding the national conversation about the future of our public libraries.

WHERE WE ARE

We have received Research and Development funding awards from the National Endowment for the HumanitiesCalifornia Humanities, the San Francisco Foundation, the Creative Work Fund, the Eastman Fund, and others. With this support, we’ve been able to spend the past two years studying the issues, learning from library experts, traveling to libraries to discover stories and characters, and beginning to film them. We’ve formed key partnerships with Urban Libraries Council and other national library organizations who are helping us develop a comprehensive outreach strategy designed to maximize the film’s impact and engage audiences of all ages, community groups, and policymakers.

WHAT WE NEED

We urgently need $75,000 so we can finish filming library stories across the United States. As you can see from the trailer, we’ve already shot some compelling moments with our participants in several communities. But we’re not done yet. We still have to shoot over 60% of the film and traveling is expensive. We’ve applied for additional grants, but grant cycles take time, and funding is limited. Your support now will guarantee that we can continue filming around the country in libraries like yours, and complete principal cinematography in late 2014/early 2015, in time to meet our goals.

Lucie's at the bottom left, holding her cat, Friday
“I grew up as the youngest in a family of seven kids -plus many dogs, cats, and miscellaneous other critters. The library was the only place where I found peace and quiet. I went to the SFPL West Portal branch library to study all through high school. Without it I know I wouldn’t have become the first person in my family to graduate from university.”
Thanks for considering our project!
Sincerely,
